St. John Sheriff's Office seeks information in Sunday shooting

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a Sunday afternoon shooting in LaPlace. and are asking the public for help in establishing leads.

Deputies responded to a report of a shooting around 1:15 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Joe Parquet Circle. When they arrived, they found a 26-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his head.

The man, who the Sheriff's Office did not identify, was conscious and alert, and holding a towel to his head. The Sheriff's Office said he was transported to a New Orleans area hospital for treatment. No one else was injured.

The victim told investigators that he was on the front porch of an apartment when he heard a loud bang and felt pain in his head, the Sheriff's Office said. The victim said he ran inside the apartment and that others inside the residence called 911.
