Members of the St. John Sheriff’s Office Distinguished Gentlemen’s Club presented a Valentine’s celebration for special people in their lives during a dinner February 10, 2020 at Petra’s Restaurant in LaPlace. To show the love to these special people, the young men served dinner and presented each of them with a red rose.
Before the celebration, T.J. Qutob, owner of Petra’s, and a few of his staff members worked with the club members to show them proper server etiquette.
Sheriff Mike Tregre said the young men did a great job for the Valentine’s celebration. Special thanks goes to T.J. and his staff for taking the time to work with the young men.
Sheriff Mike Tregre also is grateful to mentors Keith Duronslet, Steven Faucheux, Greg Baker, Justin Williams, Kendel Harris, Mike Minor, D’shinell Perrilloux and Daniel Reed for helping with the dinner.
Sheriff Tregre told the group that he and the mentors are happy to guide them in building traits of good character that will prepare them to be productive members of society as well as assist these young men in obtaining skills needed to become positive influences in the community. These skills are being introduced and reinforced through lessons, experiences, and interactions that will deepen and broaden their knowledge to become distinguished gentlemen.
A mentoring program for young men in the parish has been a vision of Sheriff Mike Tregre for a few years. In 2017, the first class of DG was formed with about eight members.
This year’s class is the largest ever, Sheriff Tregre said. Twenty-eight members and their guests attended the Valentine event.
“It’s exciting to see this program grow each year,” Sheriff Tregre said. “It’s great to know we are making a difference and helping these young men … and providing a positive influence in their lives.”
