On Saturday, July 12, 2014, at 4:47 am, a St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for improper lane use on I-10 east bound near exit 209 in LaPlace. The driver, his girlfriend, and three juvenile children were in the vehicle. A computer check on the driver revealed that the driver’s license was suspended.
The driver, Adam Landry, 33, of Slidell was arrested and booked with possession of 60 – 2000 pounds of marijuana, possession or distribution of drug paraphernalia, illegal use of a controlled drug in presence of persons under 17 years of age (3), driving on roadway laned for traffic, and operating vehicle with a suspended license. He remains in custody in lieu of a $312,250 bond.
While speaking with the driver, the Deputy Cody Malkiewicz smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A sheriff’s office drug K-9 alerted on the vehicle. Narcotics detectives responded and obtained a judicial court authorized search warrant for the vehicle. Detectives seized over 100 pounds of marijuana and nearly $18,000 in cash.
