Officers with the St. John Sheriff’s Office were excited to lend a hand March 22, 2024 when the St. John Public School System held its Special Olympics Field Day in Reserve.

While the rain caused organizers to move activities inside Regala Gym in Reserve, the spirit of participants wasn’t dampened as all involved had a great time during the event.

The Special Education Department worked with government agencies, businesses, and community groups to present the event promoting inclusiveness and acceptance between special needs students and others — outside the classroom.

Lt. Charles Gant was honored to carry the torch with Special Olympian Imani Soniat of John L. Ory Magnet School during the opening ceremony.

Officers Darlene Cooper, Greg Baker, Ingrid Perrilloux, Mike Coburn, Jadon Iberico, John Norsworthy, Ira Marsalis, Albernae Harris, Byron Lewis and Nicholas Bordelon also were among the many volunteers who assisted students during running, jumping and throwing events.
