The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office joined the Blue Angels May 6, 2020 for a salute to veterans and healthcare workers at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Reserve.
The salute at the veterans facility was part of the U.S. Navy’s flight demonstration squadron’s flyover mission over New Orleans in honor of the city’s essential frontline workers of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home has been greatly impacted by the COVID-19 crisis with the facility losing many of its residents to COVID-19 related illnesses.
As the fighter pilots took flight in the clear blue sky over the home, more than 20 police units with flashing blue lights lined the front lawn in an amazing display of honor to our war veterans and healthcare workers helping in the fight against COVID-19. Hammond Police Department also participated in the tribute.
After the flyover, police units processed through the parking lot to salute and lift the spirits of the war veterans as well as the healthcare heroes taking care of them.
