William Varnado III, 40, of LaPlace has been arrested for the 12th time since 2019 for shoplifting a variety of items from several local businesses.
Varnado’s most recent arrest occurred Thursday, October 29, 2020 after officers obtained judicial warrants for his arrest. He was booked with theft – less than $1,000 (misd). Varnado is being held in custody in lieu of a $1,000 bond.
Before the October 29 arrest, Varnado was arrested Wednesday, October 21, 2020 when officers responded to Dollar General in LaPlace in reference to a subject shoplifting cleaning supplies in the store. Enroute to the business, officers observed a male, later identified as Varnado, walking on Elm Street, fitting the description of a male subject shoplifting in the store. Varnado was in possession of the stolen items. He was booked with theft – less than $1,000 (misd). He was released October 22, 2020.
The day of Varnado’s release from jail, October 22, officers again responded to Dollar General in LaPlace in reference to a subject shoplifting clothes. Upon arrival, officers reviewed surveillance video and discovered the subject stealing clothes was the same subject, identified as Varnado, shoplifting in the store on October 21, 2020. After exiting the store, officers learned the subject ran across West Airline Highway to Elm Street. Based on investigation, detectives obtained a judicial warrant, and Varnado was arrested again on October 29, 2020.
Varnado has been banned from Dollar General, Family Dollar, Food 4 Less, Walmart, Race Trac and Home Depot, all in LaPlace.
