Sheriff Mike Tregre and a few of his officers were excited to participate in a ceremony May 14, 2024 honoring St. John citizens 90 years and plus. Eighteen seniors were honored at the event hosted by the St. John Council on Aging Inc. at Regala Gym in Reserve.

Sheriff Tregre enjoyed visiting with each 90-something, conducting an “investigation” to discover secrets to their longevity. The seniors were happy to disclose their thoughts. The secrets to a happy and long life, most said, are to focus on the moment, savor every second you spend with the people you love, treat others as you would want to be treated, and put God first in your life. They also mentioned their daily habits like stay active, stay social, get rest, and pray. Some also disclosed that they enjoy an occasional alcoholic beverage.

Sheriff Tregre thanked the seniors for their dedication, accomplishments, and service they have given throughout their lives to their families and community. “You have paved the way for us. … You have so many life experiences and wisdom to share about problems … and coping …. with the challenges and issues in life. I am so grateful that you can share with us …. all of this useful information from your experiences. Your wealth of knowledge, skills, and experience offer so much to us.”

Sheriff Tregre and Officers Lindy Eschlman, Valencia Green, Anita Haley, and Kiwaun Taylor agreed it was a delightful morning with the young at heart group.

SJSO Joins Schools for Fun End of Year Volleyball

A few St. John officers were excited to take on students at St. Joan of Arc, Lake Pontchartrain Elementary and John L. Ory Magnet for friendly volleyball games last week at the LaPlace schools.

The games were part of end of school activities for the students. Officers and students had a great time. Sheriff Tregre said the SJSO enjoys partnering in this kind of event because it’s a great way to build relationships with children.
