A LaPlace man was arrested and taken to the St. John the Baptist Parish jail after a St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy observed him burglarizing a car in the 1500 block of Cartier Drive in LaPlace around 8:13 p.m. Tuesday night (Oct. 8, 2024). The man, identified as Telvin Wilson, 30, initially told the deputy that his family lived at the house and that he was there to “detail the vehicle.”
Authorities were called to the house after a neighbor saw Wilson removing items from the vehicle. When a deputy arrived, he saw Wilson stand up after being hunched inside a black Toyota Camry that was parked in the driveway. The passenger door was open and several items were placed on the hood, including insurance cards that had the car owner’s name on them.
Wilson appeared to be nervous, and would not stop moving and putting his hands into his pockets. Wilson claimed his family lived at the residence and he was there to detail the vehicle to help his cousin.
The deputy made contact with the resident of the house who said she did not know Wilson and that he did not have permission to enter her vehicle. The car owner said she had not locked her vehicle when she returned home.
Numerous coins, totaling $5.55, were taken from the vehicle, among other items. While sifting through the change, deputy found three white pills that were found to be Alprazolam, a Schedule IV controlled dangerous substance.
Wilson was arrested and booked with:
• Bench Warrant for Contempt of Court (MISD)
• Possession of Schedule IV CDS
• Simple Burglary – Immovable Structure
Wilson was released under a $30,000 bond set by Judge Sterling Snowdy.
