A LaPlace man is facing a $500 fine for littering after a green sofa was found dumped on side of Highway 51, commonly referred to as the Low Road, in LaPlace, La on Oct. 3, 2024. The man’s white pickup truck—with the green sofa in the bed of the truck—was observed in the area on a St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office crime camera.
On Tuesday, Oct. 8, authorities were able to identify the owner of the truck as Jyron Teague. Teague has been issued a misdemeanor summons and was ordered to pick up the dumped sofa.
The St. John Sheriff’s Office routinely monitors with surveillance cameras litter and illegal dumping hot spots in the parish. Those caught will face fines. Anyone with multiple convictions could face a minimum fine of $1,500, a maximum fine up to $5,000 and the possibility of a suspended driver’s license.
