On Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at 3:29 am, St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to 4325 Highway US 51, Poker Palace Casino, in LaPlace for the report of an armed robbery. The complainant told deputies that a man entered the casino, pulled out a handgun, and demanded money. The complainant ran to the office and called 911 to report the incident. The perpetrator exited the casino without stealing anything and fled in a red two door Eldorado Cadillac. No one was injured. A deputy on Highway US 51 saw a red Cadillac matching the description of the fleeing vehicle and followed the car to the intersection of Cambridge Drive and St. Andrews Boulevard where several deputies converged to assist with stopping the car. Deputies detained the driver without incident and transported him to the Criminal Investigation Division. Because of his lethargic physical state, deputies transported the driver to Ochsner River Parish for a physical examination. He was transported back to the Criminal Investigation Division after the examination. Based on the findings of the investigation, detectives arrested the driver of the car and booked him with armed robbery with a firearm. Detectives identified the perpetrator as Willie Brown, 53, of Reserve. Brown remains in custody in lieu of a $75,000 bond.
