Three LaPlace juveniles, age 13 and 14, have been arrested and booked with vehicle theft and other charges after St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators say the trio stole a 2022 BMW X3 on Thursday night, July 31, 2025.
St. John Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 1400 block of W. Airline Highway in LaPlace shortly before 7:30 p.m. regarding a stolen vehicle. The vehicle’s owner told authorities that he’d parked the SUV and left the key in the cup holder of the vehicle.
The vehicle is equipped with a GPS tracker and deputies were able to locate it a short while later in Reserve. Deputies attempted a traffic stop on Central Avenue in Reserve, but the 14-year-old female driver refused to stop. The driver entered a parking lot in the 100 block of Central Avenue in an attempt to evade police and nearly struck an occupied golf cart in the parking lot.
The driver continued east on River Road, traveling at speeds over 70 mph where the posted speed limit is 45 mph. The driver turned on Duhe Drive in Reserve and suddenly slowed as all three suspects got out of the vehicle to run in separate directions. As they fled, the vehicle remained in drive and rolled forward where it struck an unmarked Sheriff’s Office car, resulting in minor damage to both vehicles.
One of the suspects, a 14-year-old male, was apprehended following a foot chase. The two other suspects, a 14-year-old female and a 13-year-old male, were found hiding under a mobile home.
