The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a LaPlace man and booked him with murder after deputies found the body of a dead man in the trunk of the car he was driving. Tyler Bourgeois, 20, was arrested Saturday night (Sept 27), shortly before 10 p.m. and booked with second-degree murder.
Bourgeois is being held in the parish jail under a $250,000 bond set by Judge Vercell Fiffie.
Around 9:35 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, St. John Sheriff’s Office patrol officers responded to call about a shooting in the 300 block of Railroad Avenue in Reserve. An orange, four-door Dodge sedan was seen leaving the area shortly after the sound of gunfire.
When deputies arrived on scene, they found several items, including clothing and a shell casing.
Less than 10 minutes later, a patrol officer spotted a vehicle matching the description provided of the car seen leaving the area. A traffic stop was conducted in the 2700 block of West Airline Highway in Reserve. The driver of the car, later identified as Bourgeois, pulled into the parking lot of a nearby store and stopped the car after a SJSO deputy activated emergency lights to initiate the stop. Bourgeois was the only person in the main cab of the vehicle.
Bourgeois exited the vehicle and told officers that a body was in the trunk of the vehicle. Officers opened the trunk and observed a dead man, later identified as Tylen Anderson, 21, of LaPlace.
Bourgeois was taken into custody and interviewed. During the interview, Bourgeois confessed to the homicide of Tylen Anderson. According to the statement provided by Bourgeois, he and the victim were riding together and parked the vehicle in the 300 block of Railroad Avenue. Bourgeois stated that while they were parked the two of them got into a heated verbal argument. Bourgeois said that he and Anderson got out of the vehicle. At some point Bourgeois produced a weapon and Bourgeois said he shot Anderson.
