St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Corporal Brandon Williams has been named the Officer of the Fourth Quarter for 2025. Corporal Williams was recognized for his quick and courageous actions, after locating and stopping the driver of a vehicle suspected to be involved in a homicide.

“Corporal Williams exemplified the best practices in law enforcement throughout the course of this investigation,” St. John Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre said. “Relying on his training, years of experience, and instincts, he took immediate action to address a volatile and fast-moving incident.”

Sheriff Tregre recognized Corporal Williams during a command staff meeting at the Lloyd B. Johnson Training Center in LaPlace on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026. Ched Edler of COMPASS Realty/The Edler Group, was the sponsor of the Officer Of The Fourth Quarter.

Corporal Williams will be one of four officers considered for the 2025 Officer of the Year award during a ceremony that will be held on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026.

When a call about a shooting in Reserve on the night of Sept. 27 had deputies moving west, Corporal Williams—who had been assigned to LaPlace—knew through experience and training to move toward Reserve to set a search perimeter for the suspect’s car.

While patrolling near the LaPlace/Reserve border Corporal Williams spotted a car matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle and alerted backup deputies and transmitted the vehicle’s license plate to Communications. He then conducted a felony stop on the car, with the driver pulling over in the parking lot of a gas station.

The result of this traffic stop was the recovery of the body of a homicide victim that had been placed in the trunk of the car, recovery of the murder weapon and the arrest of the sole suspect in this case—less than 10 minutes after the call for service originated!
