Deputy Woodrow St. Pierre was named 2025 Officer of the Year by the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office during the 12th annual Officer of the Year Awards Ceremony on Jan. 15, 2026 at the Lloyd B. Johnson Law Enforcement Training Center in LaPlace.

The recognition ceremony, started by Sheriff Mike Tregre in 2013, honors the Officer of the Year as well as pays tribute to other outstanding officers.

These officers are recognized for their dedication to public service, outstanding commitment to the community, excellent police work, and the commendable manner in which they perform their jobs.

Sheriff Tregre works with several local businesses that provide sponsorships and contributions to recognize these outstanding officers. Mabile’s Restaurant was the 2025 sponsor of the Officer of the Year ceremony.

Officers and their relatives, community members and SJSO’s business partners attended the program. Sheriff Kevin Cobb, executive director of the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association, was the keynote speaker.

Deputy St. Pierre, who works in the Patrol Division, was recognized for his bravery and quick response after hearing multiple gunshots at a gas station near an ongoing public event on Aug. 28, 2025.
After seeing someone fire a gun multiple times towards the opposite side of the building, Deputy St. Pierre quickly took command of the situation with verbal orders while continuing to cover subjects inside of a vehicle with his duty weapon.

Deputy St. Pierre was able to order four suspects out of the vehicle and keep them subdued until back up arrived. His actions resulted in the recovery of two firearms—a handgun and one AR style rifle—and the arrest of multiple suspects.

Alone and without any other officer immediately around, Deputy St. Pierre stopped a dangerous situation as it was unfolding.

Other special awards were presented to several officers:

Captain Jared Seruntine was honored with the Sheriff’s Star for exceptional teamwork, perseverance, dedication, professionalism, and service to the community and the SJSO.

Lifesaving Award: Deputy Jared Sensebe was recognized for his application of a tourniquet on a LaPlace gunshot victim. Hospital medical staff said without the tourniquet the patient’s chances of survival would have been at risk.
