The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested six people and recovered four guns after responding to reports of gunfire early Sunday morning in the 1100 block of Bert Street in LaPlace.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area shortly after 1 a.m. following 911 calls regarding multiple gunshots on Bert Street, a nonresidential street that is comprised mainly of businesses.

A responding deputy observed a vehicle leaving the area that turned east on Airline Highway and continued eastbound in the westbound lanes of travel. The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the driver.

Other responding deputies observed large number of spent and unspent shell casings on the pavement near the edge of Bert Street.

Surveillance video captured images of the vehicle parked on the street earlier that morning and shows multiple people getting out and retrieving items from the hatch back of the vehicle. The video shows simultaneous flashing consistent with a muzzle flash of a firearm for several minutes before the subjects return to the vehicle and drive away.

Deputies recovered four guns from the vehicle and arrested six people, including two juveniles. Those arrested were:

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Winton Jackson, 19, of Paradis, LA., booked with illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.

Bryant Tederick Antoine, 18, of Marrero, booked with illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.

Jaylon Jaron Wilson, 19, of Marrero, booked with illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.

Vernon Holmes, 17, of Harvey, booked with illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities.

Two 16-year-olds, one from LaPlace and the other from Harvey, both booked with illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile (misdemeanor) and illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities.
