The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of two people who were found shot to death in a car in the 1900 block of Yorktowne Drive in LaPlace around 2:40 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026.
Deputies responded to the area after the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call around 2:30 p.m. about a vehicle hitting a house on Yorktowne Drive. When deputies arrived, they found two males unresponsive in a Toyota Camry, a driver and front seat passenger.
Both had been shot and were pronounced dead at the scene by the St. John Parish coroner.
No one was injured in the house, which had one person inside at the time of the crash.
The driver has been identified as Daniel Robles De Medina, 18, of LaPlace
The passenger has been identified as Gerard Garret, 17, of LaPlace.
Based on physical evidence found inside the vehicle and cell phone conversations between the two obtained via a search warrant, the investigation indicates that the driver and passenger shot each other during a dispute over an illegal narcotics deal.
Two guns were found inside the vehicle along with spent shell casings that matched the two recovered firearms.
