Citizens Academy 2026 Registration is Open

Classes will be held once a week April 15 to June 17, 2026 from 5:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Lloyd B. Johnson Law Enforcement Training Center, 947 Cambridge Drive, LaPlace.   The registration deadline is April 10, 2026.Application must be returned in person or by mail prior to the deadline.

Background check is required, and applicants must pledge to attend all classes.  Participants will be notified on acceptance into the academy.

LA Sheriff's Scholarship Program

The Louisiana Sheriffs’ Scholarship Program will award scholarships providing assistance to worthy Louisiana students in furthering their education and training with resources made available through the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary Membership Programs.

A class is offered to teach women self-defense techniques to help protect themselves from assault.

A Teens and Traffic Stops class is presented periodically to teach teens how to respond if they get pulled over.

Concealed Carry Permit Classes

Concealed Carry Permit classes are offered for the public to complete the certification required to obtain a Louisiana Concealed Carry License.
