The body recovered along Highway US 51 north of LaPlace on Thursday, November 12, has been identified. St. John the Baptist Parish detectives said the body was identified as Alan Burl, 37, of LaPlace. On November 2, Burl was reported missing by his sister who told detectives that she had not heard from Burl since Thursday, October 29.


The death is classified as a homicide. This is the fifth homicide in St. John the Baptist Parish this year.

Acting on a tip in the ongoing missing person investigation, a team of St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies searched the isolated area along Highway US 51 north of LaPlace on Thursday morning, November 12. Deputies located a body approximately 3 miles south of Ruddock. Detectives were unable to identify the body. The coroner ordered an autopsy to identify the body and determine the cause of death.
