On Friday, April 29, 2016 at about 11 p.m., St. John Parish deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of Gardenia Drive in LaPlace in reference to a complaint, in which a male suspect had reportedly threatened the complainant. Upon arrival at the residence, the complainant told deputies that the suspect was her grandson who called earlier in the night and threatened to come to the residence with a gun. The suspect was identified as Jessie Bailey, 22, of LaPlace. As other deputies were en route to the residence, they observed Bailey’s car in a ditch in the 600 block of Gardenia. As deputies attempted to make contact with Bailey, he fled on foot. During the pursuit, deputies were advised that Bailey had attempted to take a woman’s vehicle in the 500 block of Magnolia Street and struck her in the head and neck. The female victim refused medical treatment. Bailey was detained in the 500 block of Magnolia Street. During a search after arrest, deputies discovered a clear sandwich bag of marijuana as well as a digital scale in Bailey’s car. Jessie Bailey was arrested April 29 and charged with flight from an officer, attempted carjacking, reckless operation of a vehicle, simple battery, possession or distribution of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. He remains in custody in lieu of a $34,250 bond.
