Jarrod McClain

Jarrod McClain, 37, of LaPlace, was arrested August 4, 2017 on several illegal drug violations during a traffic stop. On Thursday, August 3, 2017, at about 11 p.m., deputies observed a Jeep Wrangler with no tail lights traveling southbound in the 1000 block of Cambridge Drive in LaPlace and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver, identified as Jarrod McClain, began traveling at a high rate of speed, in an attempt to flee from officers, and headed westbound on U.S. 61. McClain eventually stopped the vehicle in the 1500 block of West Airline Highway, exited it, and briskly walked towards the entry of a business where deputies made contact with him. Deputies detected the odor of marijuana on his person and coming from the vehicle. McClain admitted to officers of smoking a marijuana cigarette while driving, then throwing the cigarette out the window. McClain was detained, and the K9 unit arrived on scene to search the vehicle. Deputies discovered a clear jar in the back seat of the driver’s side containing 21 individual clear bags containing 88 grams of marijuana, 15 individual marijuana cigars total weight 12 grams, one large marijuana cigar, and 15 drug-laced cakes wrapped individually in a plastic container. Jarrod also had more than $1,000 in cash on his person.

After the traffic stop, detectives determined further investigation was warranted. Detectives with the Special Operations Division executed a court ordered narcotics search and seizure warrant at McClain’s residence in the 1700 block of Greenwood Drive in LaPlace. During the search, detectives recovered about 10 grams of THC wax, six clear plastic bags containing about 68 grams of marijuana, 19 glass mason jars containing about 179 grams of multiple different strands of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a Jimenez Arms 380 handgun. Detectives also recovered over $2,000 in cash.

McClain was found to be in possession of about 103 grams of marijuana during the traffic stop and about 297 grams of marijuana located in his residence, for a combined total weight of about 400 grams of marijuana.

During the search, detectives found McClain’s fiancé and three male juveniles, ages 15, 10, and 9, in bedrooms. McClain had been previously convicted for drug law violations. He was booked with possession with two counts of intent to distribute marijuana, illegal carrying of weapon with a controlled dangerous substance, possession of firearm/carrying concealed weapon by convicted by convicted felon (felony), and three counts of illegal use of controlled drug in presence of persons under 17 years old (misd), possession or distribution of drug paraphernalia 1st offense (misd). He is being held in custody in lieu of a $114,000 bond.
