Deputy Brent Viator was off duty, but he just had to jump into action yesterday afternoon when he saw a family of ducks in potential danger. Helping the ducklings cross the busy four-lane Highway 51 in LaPlace became his priority before heading home.
Deputy Viator activated his emergency equipment and stopped the traffic to assist the duck family. The situation got a bit difficult, however, when one of the ducks tripped and fell over. Deputy Viator quickly went to the duckling’s aid, picked it up, and delivered it to the rest of its family.
The incident ended happily as the entire duck family crossed the highway without any casualties. Deputy Viator also was happy to report that the drivers waited patiently for the duck family to cross the road.
