SJSO detectives are investigating a LaPlace shooting that resulted in the death of 36-year-old Kenneth Ray Paynes of Baker.
On Thursday, January 18, 2024, about 8:30 p.m., deputies responded to gunshots heard in the area of Captain G. Bourgeois Street in LaPlace. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a male subject, identified as Paynes, in a vehicle. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body.
Officers and emergency services attempted to render medical aid to the subject, but he was unresponsive. Paynes was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner’s office.
No one else was injured. No motive is known at this time.
