Two men and two male juveniles from LaPlace were arrested April 3, 2024 after they fled from officers in a stolen vehicle then crashed 0the vehicle into a home in a LaPlace neighborhood. Arrested were Oscar Smith and Avante Ursin, both 18; a 13-year-old male; and a 15-year-old male.

On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, about 11 a.m. officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle traveling on Cambridge Drive in LaPlace. Subsequently, officers located the vehicle. Officers attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver later identified as the 15-year-old male refused to stop.

As the 15-year-old subject traveled at a high rate of speed and disregarded stop signs through the neighborhood, officers observed two passengers, later identified as Smith and the 13-year-old, jump out of the vehicle near Yorktowne Drive and attempt to flee the area. Officers quickly apprehended these subjects.

The 15-year-old driver eventually lost control, crashing the vehicle into a house on Virginian Colony. Two children inside the home were uninjured. The 15-year-old subject and a third passenger identified as Ursin were uninjured and taken into custody.

The 15-year-old was charged with speeding, driver must be licensed, reckless operation of a motor vehicle (misd), illegal possession of stolen things (felony), resisting an officer by flight (misd) and 21 counts of stop signs and yield signs violation. He is being held in custody in lieu of a $7,750 bond.

Ursin, Smith, and the 13-year-old male were booked for resisting an officer by flight (misd) and illegal possession of stolen things (felony). Ursin is being held in custody in lieu of a $11,500 bond. Smith is being held in custody in lieu of a $11,500 bond. The juvenile was released to his mother.
