Sheriff Mike Tregre and several officers spent the Saturday morning of April 20, 2024 with nearly 100 children, reelin’ them in at St. John Parish’s kids fishing event in the Bonnet Carre Spillway near Norco.

With pole and bait in hand, Sheriff Tregre and the officers led children in the fishing excursion around the spillway’s boat launch. Officers helped children place worms on a hook, cast poles and offered other fishing tips that led to nearly 200 fish caught by the kids.

The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office has hosted the event for six years. Other supporters are Marathon, Acadian Ambulance, Armstrong’s Crickets, Gold Rod Fishing Club, Coffee &, St. John United Way, St. John Parish Government, Reinhart Foods, Cabelas, Cool Concepts, DuPont, Denka, La.
