A LaPlace man has been arrested and booked with several charges, including possession of illegal narcotics and cruelty to juveniles after four students at East St. John Preparatory Academy in LaPlace ingested THC edibles. The edibles were brought to school by an 11-year-old student, who also ate the drug while at school.

On December 5, 2024 St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to East St. John Preparatory Academy in LaPlace in reference to four juveniles being under the influence of THC edibles including one of the four being sent to a local hospital. The students’ ages are age 12, 11 and two 10-year-olds.

Detectives began investigating the incident and obtained information that one of the juveniles had taken a package of THC edibles from their parent/guardian at home and brought them to school where they handed them out to other students.

Detectives then went to the juvenile’s home in the 200 block of Magnolia Ave in LaPlace and executed a court authorized search warrant to recover any additional illegal narcotics.

During the course of the search warrant at the home detectives recovered over 1,300 grams of THC edibles, multiple methamphetamine tablets, and drug paraphernalia resulting in one arrest. The subject arrested was Kerry Clofer of LaPlace.

Clofer was charged with the following crimes:
• Possession with the intent to distribute a Schedule I (Marijuana)
• Possession of a Schedule II (Methamphetamine)
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
• Cruelty to a Juvenile
Clofer’s bond was set at $14,000.00
