The mother of a 16-year-old murder suspect, who was arrested in Friday’s fatal shooting in Garyville, has been arrested by St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives. Ashley Fleming, 37, of Garyville, was arrested Saturday (Jan. 25, 2025) and booked with obstruction of justice and accessory after the fact to second degree murder.
While investigating the shooting, detectives learned that Fleming attempted to destroy evidence connected to the case. Fleming is being held in the parish jail in LaPlace under a $30,000 bond.
St. John Sheriff’s Office detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting that happened in the 200 block of Sherman Walker Street on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025. Officers arrived on scene and found the victim, Michael Johnson, Jr., 18, of Garyville, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators arrested a 16-year-old male juvenile in connection with the shooting. He has been booked with second degree murder.
A motive for the shooting has not been determined.
