The Louisiana House of Representatives on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, adopted a resolution commending St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre on his professional and civic accomplishments.
House Resolution 331, authored by Rep. Sylvia Taylor, District 57, recognizes Sheriff Tregre’s “outstanding dedication to law enforcement and to the protection of the citizens of St. John Parish.”
Sheriff Tregre, having been first elected in 2011, is now in his fourth term. He is a 38-year law enforcement veteran who ascended through the ranks from a corrections deputy to Major to Sheriff. Along that journey, Sheriff Tregre was a patrolman, worked as an undercover narcotics officer, a detective and was selected to join an elite group of law enforcement officials to graduate the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
When Sheriff Tregre was sworn into office on July 1, 2012, two of his main objectives were to create a progressive, professional and responsive Sheriff’s Office and to equip the men and women of the department with the skills, training and tools he wished he’d had early in his career.
Sheriff Tregre has provided St. John Parish with a state-of-the-art law enforcement training center that is named in honor of former Sheriff Lloyd B. Johnson. The facility has been used to train parish law enforcement officers as well as officers from around the country and serves as a meeting place for community-based events.
Sheriff Tregre also partnered with the St. John Parish government to create the Westbank Substation, which houses numerous SJSO employees and serves as a meeting place for the Westbank community.
Sheriff Tregre also has numerous professional and civic affiliations, including membership in the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association, National Sheriff’s Association, Rotary Club of LaPlace, LaPlace Lions Club, and St. Joan of Arc Church. Sheriff Tregre is a former board member and past president of St. John Parish Recreation and St. John Parish Community Action.
The resolution concludes:
“THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Sheriff Michael Tregre on his professional and civic accomplishments and does hereby express enduring appreciation for his exceptional service to the citizens of St. John Parish and the state of Louisiana.”
