A 28-year-old Montz man is in police custody after he physically assaulted an 80-year-old man in the parking lot of Walmart in LaPlace on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026 and stole his car.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to Walmart at 12:10 p.m. in reference to a carjacking complaint. The victim told deputies that he was placing groceries inside his vehicle when he was attacked by an unknown man who choked him, threw him to the ground and punched him in the face.
The victim shouted for help and was assisted by another man who was able to stop the suspect. The suspect, later identified as Christopher Fraiser, got into the victim’s car and fled the scene.
The victim was taken by relatives to Ochsner Medical Center in LaPlace for evaluation and treatment of his injuries.
SJSO deputies reported the vehicle as stolen and notified nearby law enforcement agencies with a BOLO alert. Kenner Police Department officers spotted the vehicle and was able to detain and arrest Fraiser.
Fraiser is currently in custody of Kenner Police Department and additional charges are pending in St. John Parish.
