Irvin J. Scioneaux Jr., 56, of LaPlace was arrested Tuesday, May 24, 2022 in connection to the drug overdose death of Frank Lozano, 58, also of LaPlace.
On Sunday, May 22, 2022, about 6:30 p.m., officers responded to the 400 block of Camelia Avenue in LaPlace in reference to a deceased man found in a residence. Upon arrival, officers discovered the male subject identified as Frank Lozano. The St. John Parish Coroner’s Office conducted a preliminary investigation on scene and pronounced Lozano deceased from a drug overdose.
Through investigation and review of crime cameras and home video surveillance, detectives determined Scioneaux provided Lozano with drugs that contained fentanyl. There were no visible physical injuries to the victim.
Based on investigation, detectives obtained a warrant for Scioneaux’s arrest. He is charged with second degree murder (felony) and possession of oxycodone. Scioneaux is being held in custody in lieu of a $510,000 bond.
“Fentanyl mixed with other illicit drugs like cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroine is one of the leading causes of recent overdoses in the community,” Sheriff Mike Tregre said. “In most of the overdoses, the users were unaware they were actually taking fentanyl. A very small amount of fentanyl can be lethal. I want citizens to be aware of the dangers of this deadly drug. ”
