On Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s detectives arrested Clyde Veal, Jr. of LaPlace and charged him with one count of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling (felony) and one count of theft by fraud under $1,000.00 (misdemeanor).

Deputies were originally called to a LaPlace residence in reference to a burglary that occurred on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024. During the course of the investigation detectives developed Veal to be a person of interest related to the burglary and later found that Veal pawned the reported stolen property to a local pawn shop.
During an interview with detectives, Veal admitted to committing the burglary and later pawning the stolen items.

Veal has several past arrests for burglary and possession of stolen property. Veal is currently in custody and being held on a bond of $8,000 set by Judge Vercell Fiffie.
