St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office SWAT team arrested a man who is wanted in Texas for manslaughter and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025. The suspect, Lawalter Brown, is known to use many aliases and had been on the run from authorities in Killeen, Texas since 2022.
Brown, 37, was taken into custody around 5:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Marvin Gardens in LaPlace by members of the Sheriff’s Office SWAT team. Brown is wanted for several felony warrants out of Texas for manslaughter and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon from 2022. It is believed that Brown had been hiding out in St. John Parish for approximately one year using different aliases and even attempted to deceive officers while being apprehended.
SWAT Team members were able to obtain the whereabouts of Brown from a CrimeStoppers tip and began conducting surveillance of the Marvin Gardens location. When SWAT Team members observed a subject believed to be Brown exit the location and walk down the street, he was quickly apprehended without incident.
Brown is being held in the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility in LaPlace while awaiting extradition to Texas.
