The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide in LaPlace that happened early Sunday morning (Feb. 15,2026) that has left one man dead. A suspect has been arrested and is in custody.

St. John deputies responded to a call at 12:45 a.m. in the 1900 block of North Sugar Ridge Drive in reference to a male who had been shot and was lying on the ground.

Deputies arrived to the location and found the man, later identified as Trey Johnson,32, of LaPlace, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Johnson was transported by ambulance to Ochsner Medical Complex in LaPlace and was later pronounced dead.

A second gunshot victim, a 39-year-old man, was transported to Ochsner by private vehicle.

Over the course of the investigation, detectives were able to identify one suspect, Andrew Brown, 33, of LaPlace. Brown was arrested shortly after 9:30 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 15, 2026) and booked with second degree murder and attempted second degree murder. He is being held in the parish jail under a $1.25 million bond.

The Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the shooting and is asking for the public’s assistance.
