St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested a LaPlace man and booked him with video voyeurism on Friday, May 15, 2026, after co-workers at a LaPlace Starbucks Coffee shop discovered his cell phone hidden in an employee only restroom. The cell phone, which was actively recording when it was discovered, was facing the toilet.

The LaPlace Starbucks is a drive-through store and only employees are allowed inside.

David Alfred Jr., age 30, is being held in the parish jail under a $75,000 bond. SJSO Detectives are currently conducting a forensic examination of Alfred’s phone and additional charges are pending.

In 2022, Alfred pleaded guilty to one count of video voyeurism after he was arrested for secretly recording co-workers in an employee only restroom at a LaPlace casino. Alfred was sentenced to 30 months and was required to register as a sex offender as a result of that conviction.

On Friday, SJSO detectives responded to a call from Starbucks shortly after 6 p.m. A store manager informed detectives that an employee had found a cell phone propped up under a sink in the employee-only restroom around noon that day. The phone was pointed toward the toilet and was recording. The employee said the phone belonged to Alfred.

Alfred was at work at the time the phone was found and was told to leave the store.

After the incident was reported to the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office, detectives located and arrested Alfred at 8:08 p.m. Detectives also recovered the cell phone which Alfred had with him at the time of his arrest.
