On Tuesday, June 23, 2014, at 3:31 pm while on criminal patrol in the 8800 block of Houma Drive in Reserve, a St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff‘s Office deputy saw one juvenile of a group of six male juveniles drop a handgun behind a tree. As the deputy walked toward the group, it appeared to the deputy that another juvenile grabbed a handgun from his waistband. For his safety, the deputy stepped back and began to draw his service weapon, and all the juveniles fled on foot. The deputy recovered two handguns from behind the tree.
After a foot pursuit through the neighborhood, the deputy and assisting deputies apprehended four of the six juveniles and transported them to the Criminal Investigations Division for the investigation. A fifth juvenile arrived at CID to turn himself in to detectives. After a thorough investigation, the deputy and detectives booked the five juveniles, ages 16- 14, with illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile and flight from a deputy. One juvenile was booked on a warrant for simple criminal damage to property and simple burglary of an immovable structure in connection with an unrelated investigation. All five juveniles were transported to and held at the Assumption Parish Juvenile Detention Center.
