On Tuesday, July 1, 2014, St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office narcotics detectives initiated an investigation after receiving information that marijuana plants were being grown in a shed in the backyard of a residence in the 1900 block of Acadia Drive in LaPlace. Based on the investigation, narcotics detectives obtained and executed a judicial court authorized search warrant on July 2 at the residence.
During the execution of the search warrant, narcotics detectives seized eight marijuana plants. They also seized lights and potting soil, used in the cultivation of the plants, and cups with “OGâ€, “KUSHâ€, and “ICE†handwritten on them. These terms are commonly known as street names used to refer to high-grade marijuana.
On July 8, detectives arrested Courtney Savage, 28, the homeowner, at her residence. She was arrested on a judicial court ordered arrest warrant and booked with attempted or conspiracy to cultivation. Savage bonded out of jail on a $20,000 bond.
