Cornell Anderson, 39, of LaPlace was arrested Thursday, May 4, 2017 in connection to vehicle thefts and illegal drug possession. On Thursday, May 4, 2017, the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division was contacted by McClendon Security of Jackson, Mississippi in reference to a 2017 BMW 740I sedan valued at $87,995 being stolen from Herrin-Gear BMW of Jackson, Mississippi. McClendon advised that the vehicle was equipped with a GPS tracking device and was tracked to a residence in the 600 block of South Golfview Drive in LaPlace. Special Operations Division members began surveillance of the residence, observing that the stolen vehicle was not parked outside of the residence. The residence was observed to have two garage doors, and SOD members believed the vehicle was being stored inside the garage. Based on surveillance and investigation, detectives obtained a search warrant on the residence and made contact with Cornell Anderson. Detectives then located the stolen 2017 BMW 740I parked inside the garage of the residence. Detectives also recovered a loaded stolen Kel-Tec 9 mm handgun, a stolen 2007 Suzuki motorcycle, about 13.8 grams of marijuana, two digital scales and a metal grinder.
Anderson was arrested May 4, 2017 and booked with two counts of possession of stolen property, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by convicted felon, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Anderson was released from custody Friday, May 5, 2017 on a $56,500 bond.
