Sheriff Mike Tregre and several officers with the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office joined other parish first responders for a Blue Mass on January 18, 2024 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in LaPlace.
The Rev. Cyril Buyeera, pastor of Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church thanked the first responders for their dedicated service. Father Cyril concelebrated the Mass with SJA Pastor David Ducote.
“We are very grateful for all that you do to protect and serve our community,” Father Cyril said. “We come here today to pray that God gives you great courage in your work …. and to pray that God protects you each day as you protect us.”
Deacon Daniel Reynolds and Deacon Maurice Casadaban assisted Father David and Father Cyril. Students from St. Joan of Arc and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, along with SJA parishioners also attended to show support for first responders.
After the Mass, Father David led a blessing of police units and emergency vehicles.
First responders also enjoyed a delicious pastalaya meal in the Family Life Center.
On behalf of the SJSO, Sheriff Mike Tregre expressed his appreciation to Father Cyril and Father David and Father David’s staff and congregation and the SJA students and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus for presenting such a wonderful Mass and lunch.
