Hurricane Francine arrived in St. John the Baptist Parish last week on short notice—hours of advance warnings versus the days we’ve come to expect from such storms. However, the men and women of the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office met the emergency with professional efficiency and operational integrity.
“The entire department operated at the highest level,” Sheriff Mike Tregre said. “I’ve had multiple calls from residents, on social media and just bumping into people around St. John, who were very complimentary about the job everyone did.”
It was a stellar response, Sheriff Tregre continued, from patrols and corrections and the 911 operations center to the maintenance shop, cooking team, equipment, crime cameras and community relations.
Once the storm had passed, the Sheriff’s Office post storm response included assessing potential damage that posed safety hazards to providing cold water to residents who were without electricity in Garyville.
“Everyone performed their duties and handled their roles in protecting and ensuring the safety of our residents very, very well,” Sheriff Tregre said. “Thank you for a job well done.”
