St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives have arrested a LaPlace man in connection with a shooting Tuesday night (Feb. 18) at a home on Carrollwood Drive in LaPlace.
Deputies were dispatched to Ochsner Medical Complex in LaPlace around 11:04 p.m. in reference to a shooting victim. Deputies arrived to find Roy Irvin, Jr. 55, suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim had been driven to the hospital by his mother who reported to deputies that another son, identified as 37-year-old Glenn Irvin, shot his older brother after the two argued over family issues.
Roy Irvin was transferred to University Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance. He is listed in critical condition.
After the shooting, Glenn Irvin fled the residence. He was arrested shortly after 8 Wednesday morning (Feb. 19) after he was observed driving a stolen vehicle on Fairway Drive in LaPlace. The vehicle had been reported stolen from Edgard around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. The owner of the stolen vehicle reported that she started the car to let it warm up and had left the key in the ignition and went inside her home. The car was gone when she went back outside.
Glenn Irvin was arrested without incident after being pulled over at a gas station on Belle Terre Boulevard. He was booked with aggravated second degree battery, theft of a motor vehicle (felony), theft-less than $1,000 (misdemeanor) and obstruction of justice. Glenn Irvin is being held in the parish jail.
Deputies recovered a gun Wednesday morning believed to have been used in the shooting after a passer-by called the Sheriff’s Office to report a gun on a canal bank on Greenwood Drive in LaPlace.
