The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a LaPlace man and booked him with attempted second-degree murder, among other charges, in connection with a shooting Wednesday night, April 9, 2025, in the 8800 block of Richmond Drive in LaPlace.

At approximately 8:25 p.m. members of the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to Richmond Drive in LaPlace in reference to a shooting incident.

Upon arrival deputies located a male subject who was suffering from several gunshot wounds. The man, 26, of LaPlace, was transported to University Hospital in New Orleans where he is listed in critical condition.

Detectives learned that the victim and an unidentified suspect were involved in a physical altercation. During the course of the altercation, the suspect removed a handgun from his person and shot the victim several times. The suspect then fled from the area on foot.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives were able to identify the suspect as Keenon Alexander, 26, of LaPlace. Alexander was apprehended without incident at his home around 4 a.m. Thursday (April 10, 2025).

In addition to attempted second-degree murder, Alexander was booked with possession of a firearm/carry of a concealed weapon by a convicted felon (felony), contempt of court (felony), contempt of court (misdemeanor).
