On Saturday, July 19, 2014, at 1:25 pm, a St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a vehicle on Highway LA 18 in Edgard. When the deputy approached the vehicle and asked the driver for his driver’s license, the driver told the deputy that his driver’s license was suspended. The deputy smelled the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. After confirming that the driver’s license was suspended, the deputy arrested the driver who was identified as Casimere August III, 23, of East 6th Street in Edgard.

During a search of the vehicle, the deputy recovered about $180 worth crack cocaine and a loaded handgun from the vehicle. Correctional officers located a small amount of marijuana in his hair during the booking procedure.

A computer check on Casimere August III revealed that he was a convicted felon and was currently on active probation. August was booked with operating a vehicle with a suspended license, mirrors, resisting a deputy with force or violence, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, illegal carrying of a weapon with a CDS, possession of marijuana, and violation of probation. He remains in custody in lieu of a $65,000 bond and a probation hold. August was arrested four times since April 2010.
