Brothers Dequan Lavonte Gibson, 21, and Davone Lavone Gibson, 18, of LaPlace were arrested Tuesday, December 19, 2017 following a traffic stop. On December 19, about 8:30 p.m., deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on I-10 in LaPlace. Upon making contact with the driver, identified as Dequan Gibson, and the passenger, identified as Davone Gibson, deputies detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Upon speaking to Dequan, he admitted to having a handgun near the door of the driver’s front seat and to having marijuana inside the vehicle. Both subjects were taken into custody. During a search of the vehicle, deputies discovered the handgun near the driver’s front seat, another handgun a computer check revealed to be stolen, five plastic bags containing marijuana and a grinder.
Dequan Gibson was booked with illegal possession of a stolen firearm, illegal carrying of a weapon with a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession or distribution of drug paraphernalia 1st offense (misd). He is being held in custody with an unset bond at the time of publication.
