A Garyville man has been arrested and booked with one count of simple burglary of an immovable structure (a felony) after St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s deputies say he cut through a store’s wall to steal cigarettes and other items during the early morning hours of Sept. 29.
Detectives arrested 38-year-old Dane Wilson of Garyville on Thursday, Oct. 3, following an investigation into the burglary. Deputies responded to a store alarm in Garyville around 4 a.m. on Sept. 29 and found a hole in the exterior back wall of the store. Packs of cigarettes were found nearby in the grass and ATV tracks were also seen leading away from the store.
Security camera surveillance from the store showed a man putting items into a clear garbage bag.
During the course of the investigation, detectives developed Wilson to be a person of interest related to the burglary. A search warrant was executed at Wilson’s home at which time items removed during the burglary and several other pieces of evidence were collected.
Wilson has several past arrests for burglary and possession of stolen property. Wilson was released Monday, Oct. 7, on a bond of $20,000 set by Judge Sterling Snowdy.
