School is in session – at least it was for these St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Officers!
St. John Sheriff’s School Resource Officers (SRO), Sgt. Darlene Cooper, Cpl. Taryus Smith, Cpl. Robenson Thelemaque and Community Relations Deputy Mike Coburn, were in class this summer keeping abreast of school safety standards and learning from national experts at the 2024 National School Safety Conference held in Phoenix, Arizona.
The officers attended sessions that included the critical roles of SROs, relationship building and developing a culture that will help lead to a safer school community.
As they gear up for the new school year, the officers are gaining valuable tools that will help them enhance St. John’s SRO program and school safety training.
“We are looking forward to continuing to build strong relationships between the schools and our community,” SRO Commander Sgt. Cooper said. “Our goal is to help maintain a safe campus throughout the district.”
