St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre had the pleasure of presenting Jayla Ezidore with the 2025 academic scholarship from the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Scholarship Program.
Ezidore, a 2025 graduate of West St. John High School in Edgard, plans to attend Southern University-Baton Rouge to study electrical engineering. Ezidore wants to become an electronics engineer, with a goal of advancing smart technology. At West St. John, Ezidore was an honor student and member of the track team’s 4 x 2 relay that qualified for the state championship track and field meet. She also was awarded the Phi Iota Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. High School Essay Scholarship.
Ezidore, the daughter of Jovan Lumar of Reserve, received $1,000 for educational expenses.
Applications were received from graduating seniors attending all St. John Parish high schools. Qualities such as academic achievement, leadership, community service, extracurricular activities and character are considered. Applications were reviewed by a board of SJSO employees, and the board then submitted its recommendations to Sheriff Tregre.
Applicants must be a permanent resident of Louisiana, use the scholarship for higher education within Louisiana, and be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student.
The Louisiana Sheriffs’ Educational Scholarship Program awards $1,000 to graduating high school students in parishes where the sheriffs are members of the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary Membership Program. Funding for the scholarship is made possible through the support of St. John the Baptist Parish’s honorary members.
Congratulations to Ezidore and all of the 2025 graduates.
