On Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at 7:18 pm, St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 8800 block of Sunnyside Drive in LaPlace for the report of the armed robbery. The victim told deputies that he gave an acquaintance a ride to the store, and when the victim and acquaintance returned from the store, the acquaintance pulled out a handgun and told the victim to get out the car and to give him his belongings. The victim surrendered his wallet, and the perpetrator drove off in the victim’s car. No one was injured.
About 20 minutes later, deputies responded to the Stop and Save in the 800 block of Newport Drive in LaPlace for the report of a disturbance with a gun. The description of the perpetrator involved in the disturbance and the car that he was driving matched the description of the perpetrator and the stolen car in the earlier armed robbery. The perpetrator left the area before deputies arrived on the scene.
Responding deputies located the perpetrator driving the stolen vehicle and stopped the vehicle in the 500 block of Revere Drive. The perpetrator was arrested without incident. Investigators recovered a handgun from the car.
The perpetrator was identified as Rasheed Dooley, 17, of Gail Drive in LaPlace. He was booked with armed robbery, armed robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault with a firearm, possession of stolen property, possession of a firearm with an obliterated number, and illegal carrying of a weapon in a crime of violence. Dooley remains in custody in lieu of a $152,500.00 bond.
