The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting in Wallace, La., that happened Thursday (Oct. 31, 2024) at approximately 8 p.m. in the 100 block of Dufresne Drive in the Sugarland subdivision. A 17-year-old male was found with a gunshot wound to his leg.

St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were nearby providing crowd control for a Halloween event and responded quickly to the incident and rendered aid to the victim and secured the scene. It was determined that the individual suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a struggle with other individuals.

At this time, the victim is uncooperative with investigators and no arrests have been made. Deputies canvassing the area located a Glock 9 mm handgun and several spent casings. The investigation is ongoing.

“It is unfortunate that during a Halloween family event individuals would bring a firearm and show complete disregard for the safety of the families enjoying the evening,” Sheriff Mike Tregre said. “We will continue to investigate even though, at this time, the alleged victim is uncooperative.”
